WE BUY THIS SAWS FROM AMAZON DUE TO GREAT SHIPPING AND SERVICE AND MODIFIED THEM TO INCLUDE THE SMART BASE AND DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM.
The saw is mechanically sound; however, the total package does not justify the $180.00 price tag. Received the saw today from Tools for Less. The allen bolt used to tighten the blade was stripped. I cannot afford poor customer service.
While I enjoy my Makita tools I did not like their efforts to get quick resolution so that I could put this tool to work. Based on their customer service I will be seeking another tool vendor to work with. Makita quickly dictated their policies and wanted no part of this - their position was to return the saw back to the seller. Dropping off the saw at Makita for repairs would be an easy solution.
Blade guard had dents. I discussed simply returning the saw to them and they solve the issue. This saw while new exhibited all characteristics of being used. This saw disappoints me and will be returned. To attempt to save shipping cost for both me and the the seller, I contacted Makita in Atlanta.
I have run the saw and appears no problems. Additionally, the label on the saw that illustrated the blade depth was coming off saw. I have been a huge fan of Makita to date.
The electric brake doesn't brake the blade, i sent it back for refund. but my brand new unit from Amazon was defective.
It also is a bit lighter, 10.1 vs. Makita is a reputable manufacturer. Don't walk, run, to buy this saw. They cause more brush wear, but brushes are cheap compared to prosthetics. This saw is and LOOKS high quality. I guess that you can get a lemon in anything. That said, I also have to admit that I am a perfectionist regarding tools and an engineer who can't avoid analyzing everything that I buy. I have had two near-misses on other saws after the guard jammed with sawdust, keeping the rotating blade exposed after I set them down.
The 5007MGA is essentially the same saw as the highly rated 5007MG, with an important safety improvement, an electronic brake. I really can't explain the first, one-star customer review of this product at Amazon. So, I rate this saw as beyond best-in-class. It is in a class by itself. I wish the consumer protection agencies would mandate them on all power saws.
So, I consider a blade brake a "gotta-have". reduction helps a lot). Keeping all 20 fingers and toes intact and in all of the right places is just too important. The case should have room for more than one spare blade; the guard spring should not be exposed, but hidden like the DeWalt, to avoid sawdust jamming it; the case is a bit narrow, so you have to avoid pinching the cord while closing the case; and it is just average in weight (even a 1 lb. 10.4 lbs. That said, I do have a few quibbles. This is not a dangerous product, as the review said.
Unfortunately, after much looking around, this is the only saw of this type that I found that had one. They will describe what a superb tool this saw really is. It is beautifully finished and well balanced, with all of the controls and adjustments in the right places. Potential buyers should search Amazon for the customer reviews of the 5007MG.
All the adjustment are positive and easy to use. This thing is powerful, but binds real easy and kicks back like nothin' I've ever seen. Oh, the foot is super solid. Can't really use the guard lever because it takes my hand off the second grip, making it scary once again. I'm afraid to use it. I noticed the blade is very thin kerf and the teeth are flush with the plane of the blade, so I'll try a bit more agressive blade.
